What is the greenest diet on the planet?
In my opinion ,it's a diet that is:
As local as possible
As raw as possible
As vegan as possible
The diet that I try and live by is the raw vegan diet.
2008 was the turning point for me. For most of my life, I had eaten a fairly typical Australian diet. Like most people though, I had completely warped views of what healthy food actually was. Sugar was probably my biggest enemy.
My typical diet back then - museli with milk and orange juice for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, crisps as a snack, toast with low calorie jam for afternoons, rice and vegetable stirfry for dinner and occasionally some cake or ice-cream for dessert. So much of that is pure sugar.
I have always struggled with my weight, even though most of my life I was doing intensive dance training. When I got to university, it was even worse because I was stressed from being away from home, and I wasn't dancing as much. I've also had a lot of health problems, such as hormonal imbalances, pneumonia, depression, constant colds and lethargy. I believe this was all down to my diet.
I have been exploring the raw food diet since March 2008, and I have a long way to go! I'm trying to drink raw juices and smoothies every day, a salad every day and a lot more organic fruit and vegetables.
I have the knowledge now about what raw food can do for me, but I don't always apply it. I track my weight loss as that's a good barometer for me about my health. Part of this blog is keeping me accountable, and part of it is helping others learn about the raw food way of life too.
